Glenveagh and Ards forest park

Amidst the Derryveagh Mountain Range, you will find Ireland’s second largest National Park, Glenveagh, designated a Special Area of Conservation and a Special Protected area. Apart from the beauty of the surrounding mountains, the Lough Veagh and the natural habitat, you will also discover the history behind this place of beauty and enjoy walking trails.

The Ards Forest Park covers an area of about 480 hectares (1200 acres) and is considered one of Ireland’s most beautiful and varied Parks. Us locals call it “a peek into paradise”! It offers visitors plant life, wildlife, secluded beaches, forest land and mountains, as well as historic points of interest.

Here, you can enjoy either guided walking trail down the bridle path, or spend the day taking in the Castle tour, refreshments at the tea room or simply meandering around the grounds viewing the beautifully maintained gardens and kitchen garden.

Half day or full day – on your own or guided – the choice is yours…

For the family, it offers a playground for children, picnic spots and the sandy beaches; for walking enthusiasts, it offers walking trails of differing magnitudes of difficulty; for historians, it offers remains of ring forts, Mass rocks and places of legendary tales and for environmental and ecology enthusiasts, flora, fauna, sea and mountains.
